Abstract:Root canal preparation is a critical step in root canal treatment, essential in cleaning and shaping the root canal system. However, apical microcracks frequently develop during mechanical root canal preparation. These cracks are susceptible to expansion and may progress to root vertical fracture particularly when influenced by factors such as advanced age, treatment history, irregular root canals, and adverse stresses. This study aims to identify the risk factors contributing to the formation of apical microcracks during the root canal preparation process and to elucidate the biomechanical factors that drive their progression.By advancing our understanding of the occurrence, progression, and prognostic significance of apical microcracks, this research seeks to inform clinical strategies that mitigate their progression to root vertical fractures and optimize the preservation of natural teeth.
