Abstract:PANoptosis has emerged as a significant focus in recent scientific research, characterized as an inflammatory form of programmed cell death(PCD)that is regulated by the PANoptosome complex and encompasses key features of cellular pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis.Essentially, this inflammatory cell death pathway is highly coordinated and maintains a dynamic balance, playing a critical role in the body's response to infections, damages, and intrinsic defects. The assembly and activation of the PANoptosome are identified as the most critical steps in the process. This paper reviews the differences and interrelations between panoptosis and the three canonical forms of PCD,elucidates the underlying molecular mechanisms and regulatory patterns of panoptosis, and discusses the potential implications of panoptosis regulation in the context of oral diseases. The aim is to offer new insights and broaden the approaches to the prevention and treatment of oral infectious diseases.
