Abstract:Chronic periodontitis(CP)is an oral chronic infection/inflammatory condition, identified as a source of mediators of inflammation into the blood circulation, which may contribute to exacerbation of several diseases. Alzheimer's disease (AD)is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive cognitive decline and memory loss, inevitably leading to complete loss of mental faculties and death. There is increasing evidence that inflammation plays a key role in the pathophysiology of AD.The relationship between CP and AD has been confirmed. In this paper, the research progress on the association between CP and AD is overviewed.
