Abstract:AIM:To observe the acute inflammation induced by titanium with different surface topography. METHODS:The titanium samples with the surface topography of smooths, micro concavity, nanotubes with the diam-eter of 20~30 nm and 80 ~100 nm were subcutaneously implanted into C57 mice(n=6) respectively. 16 and 72 hours after operation the skin and subcutaneous tisure samples were taken and examined by HE staining, toluidine blue staining and immunohistochemistic test. RESULTS:The smooth sample group showed more inflammatory cell infiltra-tion than the other 3 groups(P<0.05), micro concavity group showed more inflammatory cell infiltration than the 2 nanotube groups(P<0.05),no statistical difference was observed between the 2 nanotube groups. CONCLUSION:Implant surface topography may play a role in subsequent acute inflammation reaction.
