Abstract:AIM:To compare the effects of glass fiber post with cast metal post in the restoration of tooth defect.MEHODS:142 teeth with tooth defect in 93 patients were repaired by implementation of glass fiber post (72 teeth in 47 cases) and metal casting post (70 teeth in 46 cases) respectively. After the completion of the repair operation, the patients were followed-up for 24 months, the prosthesis loosening off and post nail breakage, color matching, edge fitting and restoration completeness were observed, periodontal alkaline phosphatase(ALP) level was measured.RESULTS:24 months after repair, glass fiber group showed better restoration color matching and edge fitting than metal casting group (P < 0.05);post nuclear crown damage was found in 3 cases in glass fiber group and 22 cases in metal casting group (P < 0.05).The success rate of glass fiber group and metal casting group was 98.61% and 88.57% respectively(P < 0.05).24 months after repair,ALP level in metal casting group increased (P < 0.05),in glass fiber group did not significantly changed (P > 0.05).CONCLUSION:Glass fiber post is more effective than cast metal post in the restoration of tooth defect.
