Abstract:AIM:To evaluate the fracture resistance of roots oburated with iRoot SP in root canal three-dmensional obturation.METHODS:55 mandibular premolars with single canal were decoronated and 55 root segments with the length of 12 mm were obtained. The roots were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups of A,B and C(n =15) and a control group of D(n =10).The roots in group D were unprepared and unfilled. In experimental groups root canals were instrumented using Protaper Files and prepared to #30.The root canals of group A were directly filled with iRoot SP,those of Group B and C were filled with iRoot SP using continuous wave of condensation technique and AH plus (root canal sealer) using continuous wave of condensation technique respectively. After filling the roots were examined by X-ray films, all canals were sealed with light-cured glass ionomer, kept at room temperature in 100 g/L formalin for 2 weeks. Then all samples were placed on a universal testing machine and loaded until fractured, the.maximum breaking load was recorded.RESULTS:The maximum breaking load of group A,B,C and D(N) was 384.33 ±91.55,308.33 ±56.25,289.13 ±54.92 and 370.50 ±89.92 respectively(A or D vs B or C,P <0.05;A vs D or B vs C,P > 0.05).CONCLUSION:iRoot SP is a promising sealer in terms of increasing fracture resistance of endodontically treated roots.
