The role of signaling network in tooth development

Abstract:Transcription factors Msx2 and Runx2 play an important role in the extracellular matricx synthesis of emailloblasts through the Smad signaling pathway and the p38 MAPK signaling pathway.FGFs can participate in Smad signaling pathway and regulate the expression of Maxs directly, can also participate in the activation of MEK-ERK signaling pathway to down-regulate Smads transcriptional activity, therefore regulat Smad signaling pathway.Pitx2 can regulare the dental germ differentiation and the extracellular matrix synthesis through Nodal/Sonic hedghog signaling pathway.Transcription factor Msx2 effects enamel matrix secretion through Smad signaling pathway and Wnt signaling pathway. All of these indicate that Msx2 is of great significance as the intersection of the two kinds of signaling pathways in the dental development process. In this paper, the effects of transcription factors such as Msx2,Runx2,FGF2,Bmp and Pitx2 on dental development through a variety of signaling pathways were reviewed.
