Abstract:Physiologically, bone metabolism is the constant process of osteoblasts-mediated bone formation and osteoclasts-mediated bone resorption.A variety of cytokines and growth factors are involved in both processes. In recent years, the discovery of OPG/RANKL/RANK system which is composed of osteoprotegerin(OPG), receptor activator of NF-κB ligand(RANKL) and the receptor activator of NF-κB(RANK) leads to a great advance in researches of bone physiology. The OPG/RANKL/RANK triad belongs to the tumor necrosis factor family. With deep study of OPG/RANKL/RANK system, we found the system can provide useful insights for multiple disciplines in dental field.
