Abstract:AIM:To investigate the bactericidal effect of KSL antimicrobial peptides chewing gum on oral bacteria by 16S rRNA sequencing technique.METHODS:Saliva samples were collected before and after using KSL antimicrobial peptides chewing gum from 6 healthy subjects.Saliva samples′ DNA was extracted and the 16S ribosomal RNA gene clone library was constructed. The composition and abundance of bacteria before and after chewing the gum were analyzed.RESULTS:A total of 375 OTUs were obtained. At phylum level, KSL antimicrobial peptides chewing gum showed significant inhibiting effect on Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes(P<0.05).At genus level, the chewing gum showed significant inhibiting effect on Bacteroides, Neisseria, Haemophilus, Veillonella, Prevotella and Streptococcus(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:KSL antimicrobial peptides chewing gum has bactericidal effect on most pathogenic bacteria of dental caries and periodontal disease.
