Abstract:AIM: To investigate the effects of type 2 diabetes on the levels of Il-1β,IFN-γ,IL-10 and PGE2 in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) in patients with periodontitis.METHODS: 8 patients with type 2 diabetic and periodontitis(group A),8 with type 2 diabetic(group B),8 with periodontitis(Group C),8 with gingivitis(group D),and 8 healthy subjects (group E) were included.Clinical periodontal measures were recorded and the levels of IL-1β,IFN-γ,IL-10 and PGE2 in GCF were measured.RESULTS: The weight of GCF was higher in group A,C and D than that in group B and E(P<0.05).The levels of IFN-γ,IL-1β were higher in group A and C than those in group B,D and E(P<0.05),while group A presented even higher concentrations than group C(P<0.05).Group A and C demonstrated greater PGE2 level than group B,D and E(P<0.05),there was no significant difference between group A and C.The level of IL-10 was lower in groups A and C that in group B,D and E(P<0.05),group A showed even lower IL-10 level than group C(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between the levels of IL-1β,IFN-γ,PGE2 and the weight of GCF,PD and AL(r>0.429 6,P<0.05),while IL-10 level presented a negative correlation with the weight of GCF,PD and AL (r<-0.227 5,P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The change of levels of IL-1β,IFN-γ,IL-10 and PGE2 in GCF is a consequence of systemic and local factors, and type 2 diabetes enhances periodontal inflammatory response.
