Abstract:AIM:To evaluate the sealing effect of different Chinese herbs in dentine tubules.METHODS:40 dentin discs were prepared from bovine mandibular incisors and randomly divided into 8 groups (n=5) as Procyanidin group,Tannic acid group, gallic acid group,Naringin group,EGCG group,Paeonol group and control group. For treatment groups, the discs were immersed in herbal solutionss for 5 min,3 times a day, then immersed in remineralization solution. The discs in control group were immersed in remineralization solution without any other treatment. The sealing effect was observed by scanning electron microscope. The degree of the occlusion of dentinal tubules was quantified using image analysis software and the results were analyzed by the rank sum test.RESULTS:All the herbs except Glycyrrhizic acid showed significantly better sealing effects than the control(P<0.05).Moreover,procyanidin showed the most effective sealing followed by tannic acid and naringin(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Procyanidins,tannic acid and naringin have good sealing effecs in dentin tubules.
