Abstract:AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of apical negative pressure irrigating system and conventional needle irrigation method in removing debris from root canals.METHODS:The canals of 20 extracted premolars with single canal, were instrumented with ProTaper Universal system and irrigated with 52.5 g/L NaCLO and 170 g/L EDTA.Then the teeth were randomly divided into 2 groups (n =10).During root canal preparation, the canals in CN group were irrigated using a 31-gauge irrigation needle,in NP group with a series of apical negative pressure irrigation needles..After root canal preparation, all teeth were decalcified, embedded, serial sections were prepared at 1 mm from the apical level and examined by HE staining, the debris removal was evaluated by image analysis.RESULTS:At 1 mm from anatomical apex, the debris removal efficacy of NP group and CN group was 99.34% and 97.83% respectively(P <0.05).CONCLUSION:Apical negative pressure irrigation is more effective in debris removal than conventional needle irrigation.
