Abstract:AIM:To evaluate the toothbrushing force on dentine abrasion and on wedge-shaped defect formation.METHODS:40 dentine specimens for wear test were prepared from human premolars,the specimens were divided into 5 groups(n =8) and brushed in a V-type dental wear testing machine for 10 000-times under a loading of 90 g(F90),110 g (F110),130 g(F130),150 g(F150) and 170 g(F170) respectively.Then the abrasion depth,abrasion volume and roughness average(Ra) of each specimen were measured using a three-dimensional optical profilometer.RESUITS:The abrasion depth ranked as follows:F90 < F110 < F130 < F150 < F170(P < 0.01);the abrasion volume ranked as follows:F90 < F110 < F130 < F150 < F170 (P < 0.01);Ra ranked as follows:F90 < F110 < F130 < F150 <F170(P <0.01).There was a correlation between Ra with the abrasion depth and volume (r >0.7).CONCLUSION:The bigger the toothbrushing force is,the more the dentine abrasion loss and the more serious the wedgeshaped defect will be.
