Abstract:AIM:To investigate the relationship between pulp chamber roof and cemento-enamel junction of mandibular first molar in Chinese Han population by using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).METHODS:CBCT images of 420 mandibular first molars in Chinese Han population (210 males and 210 females) were collected and divided into 6 age groups based on 10-year interval as following:15-24,25-34,35-44,45-54,55-64 and 65-74 years. The images were measured by Galileo software of CBCT;the distance between the lowest position of pulp chamber top and enamel-dentinal junction of the molar pulp was measured in vertical direction and then statistically analysed.RESULTS:On M-D plan, the vertical distance between the lowest position of pulp chamber top and enamel-dentinal junction of mandibular first permanent molar pulp was (-0.82 ± 0.63) mm in males and (-0.78 ± 0.60) mm in females (P>0.05) respectivety. On B-L plan, the figure was (-0.72 ±0.63)mm in males and (-0.61 ±0.62)mm in females(P < 0.05),respectively.There was negative correlation between the distance and age (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:In Chinese Han population, the roof of mandibular first molar pulp chamber is located within 1 mm below the cemento-enamel junction. There is no gender difference between genders in the distance. But age is negatively related with distance.
