Management of fractured instruments in root canals

Abstract：One of the most troublesome problems in endodontic treatment is separation and lock of the in-struments in root canals. Irretrievable intracanal separation of endodontic instruments may block the pathway to the api-cal constriction and thus hinder the effectiveness of shaping and cleaning procedures, which may affect the prognosis. The causes of the separation of endodontic instruments are multifactorial and complicated. Due to its own unique char-acteristics of every case of fractured instrument in root canal, there is still no standardized management and procedure for successful fragment removal. This article summarizes the current techniques and approaches of removing separated instruments.
