Abstract:AIM:To investigate the age-related changes of heat shock protein( HSP) expression in dental pulp tissue. METHODS:Male SD rats with the ages of > 10 m (n=15) and < 2 m (n=15) were used in this study. The mandibles with the bilateral first molars were sectioned, fixed and decalcified. The expression of heat shock transcription factor 1 (HSF1) and heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) in the dental pulp tissues were examined by immu-nohistochemical staining, RT-PCR and Western blot. RESULTS:Both HSF1 and HSP27 were expressed in the dental pulp tissues of SD rats. The mRNA and protein expression of HSF1 increased with age. However, the mRNA and pro-tein expression of HSP27 decreased with age. CONCLUSION:Heat shock protein might be involved in the process of dental pulp ageing.
