The orifice location of mesial root canals in mandibular first decidous molars

Abstract：AIM:To observe the orifice location of mesial root canals in mandibular first decidous molars and to find out the probability of mesillingual root canals and their anatomical markers by CBCT.METHODS:69 mandibular first deciduous molars in 52 children aged 4-6 years underwent CBCT examination and root canal thera-py of the molars were included.The number and orifice location of mesial root canals were observed and recorded.The distance between 2 orifices of mesial root canals were measured horizontally at the bottom of the lumen and the intersec-tion angle of the canals were measured.The data was statistically analyzed.RESULTS:The occurrence rate of single canal orifice was 24.64%(17 roots),and that of double canal orifice was 75.36%(52 roots).Among the double ca-nal orifices,43 cases (62.32%)were found with stenosis and 9 cases (13.04%)with no stenosis.CONCLUSION:The occurrence of mesiallingual root canals in mandibular first deciduous molars is high.The orifices of the double ca-nal can be individual or fused.
