Abstract:AIM:To measure the thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa by cone-beam computed tomo-graphy (CBCT)in Han population, and to study its relationship with palatal vault morphology.METHODS:The thickness of palatal masticatory mucose and the width and height of the palatal vault were measured in 22 adults at 3, 6,9 and 12 mm from the palatal gingival margin of canine to the second molar.42 mesurements were collected for each patient.RESULTS:The maxillary palatal mucosa was gradually thickened with the increased distance from gingival margin. At 6,9 and 12 mm,premolar regions showed significantly greater thickness than the first molar region. High-vault was with thinner mucosa than low-vault at 9 mm of the second molar.CONCLUSION:Premolar palatal regions are the most suitable place for harvesting soft tissue grafts. For those who have low vaults, the graft width of recommended region should be narrower and can be extended to the first molar when needed. When it comes to high vaults, the recommended region can be wider and can be extended to canine when needed.
