Abstract:AIM:To observe the expression of TGF-β1 of macrophages in the periapical tissues with differ-ent types of human chronic periapical diseases.METHODS:75 specimens from the subjects were divided into 3 groups(n=25 ),including healthy control, periapical granuloma and periapical cyst. All specimens were examined by HE staining and double-immunofluorescence for the identification of TGF-β1-CD14 (MPs)double-positive cells in periapical tissues.RESULTS:Compared with the healthy controls, the densitiy (cells /mm2 )of TGF-β1-CD14 double-positive cells was significantly higher in the tissues of chronic periapical diseases (P<0.05 );and that in periapical cyst group was significantly higher than in periapical granuloma (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:TGF-β1 -CD14 double-positive cells may be involved in the pathological process of human chronic periapical diseases,espe-cially in the process of fibrous formation and tissue repair of periapical cysts.
