Abstract:AIM:To construct antibacterial Ti surfaces using mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs)as a media-tor to anchor silver(Ag)nanoparticles and to evaluate the performance of the nano -Ag/MAPs composite -coated Ti sur-faces.METHODS:72 titanium sheets were divided into 4 groups(n =18).The Ti surfaces were coated by MAPs (Group M),silver nanoparticles(Group A)and MAPs with silver nanoparticles (Group H)respectively, the samples of Group T without coating were used as the controls.EDS and SEMwere used to analyze the surface microtopography and components of all samples. The antibacterial ability and cytotoxicity of the coating were tested by bacteriostatic ring exper-iment and CCK -8 assay respectively.RESULTS:In Group H silver nanoparticles were observed on Ti surfaces by SEM,silver element was detected by EDS and the bacteriostatic ring was found around the samples. The silver and bacte-riostatic ring were not found in the other 3 groups.CCK -8experiment showed that the proliferation activity of BMMSCs was not restrained in group H and there was no significant difference among the 4 groups.CONCLUSION:Silver nanop-articles can be coated onto Ti surface by MAPs and an antibacterial coating without cytotoxicity can be constructed.
