Abstract:AIM:To quantify the tooth structure reduction and the bonding area of one human maxillary central incisor preparation for ceramic veneers by Micro CT and 3-D printing technology.METHODS:According to the requirements of clinical experiments, one male maxillary central incisor with normal crown shape and without severe abrasion was selected. The tooth was scanned by Micro CT,then reconstructed into 3-D model and copied by 3-D printing method.Afterwards, veneers were prepared by clinical standards. Finally,The reverse engineering software of Mimics and Geomagic Studio were applied to analyze the volume and area of the dental tissue specimen before and after tooth preparation.RESULTS:The volume loss of maxillary central incisor after tooth preparation for veneer was 90.05 mm3 ,and the total bonding area was 107.27 mm2 (the bonding area of enamel was 60.84 mm2 ,56.71%).CON-CLUSION:The tissue loss of maxillary central incisor for porcelain laminate veneer accounts for about 1 /3 of the crown hard -tissue by volume. The mean percentage of enamel exposure following preparation is more than that of den-tine.The use of enamel bonding system during the placement of porcelain veneer is suggested.
