Quantification of substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide expressed in inflamed human dental pulp

Abstract：AIM:To investigate substance P (SP)and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)expression in dental pulp with inflammation.METHODS:Based on pulp vitality and clinical examination,45 extracted wisdom teeth were divided into chronic pulpitis,deep caries and healthy groups (n=15).The expression of SP and CGRP in dental pulp tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR.One-way ANOVA was used to statistically an-alyse the data.RESULTS:The mRNA and protein expression levels of SP and CGRP were significantly higher in the chronic pulpitis group than in deep caries group and healthy pulp group (P<0.05).Furthermore,SP mRNA expres-sion was higher in deep caries group than in healthy pulp group (P<0.05 ).CONCLUSION:CGRP and SP may participate in the process of dental pulp inflammation.
