Investigation of the teaching program of periodontology for the undergraduates in China

Abstract：Questionnaire investigations and class schedules of the teaching programme of periodontology for the undergraduates were collected from 1 5 universities of Chinese periodontic committee members.The average class hours of periodontal theory are 26.8 (1 2 -53),and the average class hours of lab training are 29.6 (1 2 -49),the average period clinical training is 4 -8 weeks.Only 8 universities (53.3%)require every student treat periodontal pa-tients over 1 5 cases.9 universities (60%)require every student do supragingival scaling over 4 cases.5 universities (33.3%)require every student do subgingival scaling over 5 cases.So the deficiency of periodontal theory,lab train-ing and clinical training and low teaching requirements may be adverse to the clinical work after graduate.
