Abstract:AIM:To investigate the morphological characteristics of root canal system of the maxillary first molars of Uygur subjects.METHODS:22 extracted maxillary first molars of Uygur subjects were collected, scanned and 3D reconstructed by Micro -CT.The classification of root canal, distribution and the incidence of accessory canals were observed according to Vertucci's classification.RESULTS:1 tooth was with 4 roots,Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅳ,Ⅵ and Ⅷ root canal system were in 4(1 9%),3(1 4%),3(1 4%),7(33%),2(1 0%)and 2(1 0%)of the 21 teeth with 3 roots .In-cidence of MB2 was 57% ,most of them located in the mesio -buccal side of the MB -P .The mean distance of MB -MB2 was 2.1 2 ±1 .29 mm.Incidence of accessory canal in the MBR was 67%.Among them, lateral canals were the highest(57%)at the apical of root canal.CONCLUSION:The root canal system, especially the MBR,of maxillary first molars of Uygur subjects is complicated, which will increase the difficulty of root canal therapy.
