Abstract:AIM:To investigate the sealing capability of endodontically treated teeth restored with polylatic acid( PLA) absorbable post and membrane. METHODS:36 extracted maxillary central incisors were used. 3 incisors were untreated as the negative controls( group E) , 33 teeth were chemomechanically prepared and filled with gutta-percha and sealer. The teeth in group A ( n=10 ) were restored with PLA absorbable post and membrane, those in group B(n=10) with fiber post cemented by ResiLute, a kind of dual cure resin cement, in group C(n=10) with metal screw post cemented by glass ionomer cement (GIC). Then the teeth in group A, B and C were restred with post, 3 teeth without post in group D were used as the positive controls. All teeth were separately immersed in Indian ink for 72 h. Buccolingual sections were made through the vertical axis of the specimens and a stereomicroscope was used to evaluate the deepest length of dye penetration. The Kruskal-Wallis H nonparametric test was used to deter-mine intergroup difference. RESULTS:No micrdeakage was observed in group E and microleakage covered the whole post space in group D. A statistically significant difference of microleakage was observed among the three tested groups (P=0. 002). Group B had the lowest microleakage (0. 50+0. 45) mm, followed by Group A (1. 30+0. 77) mm and Group C (1. 47+0. 41) mm. But no significant difference was observed between Group A and Group C (P=0. 246). CONCLUSION:The sealing capability of PLA is comparable with that of glass ionomer cement.
