Abstract:AIM:To investigate the clinical effects of minimal invasive technique in periodontal flap surgery. METHODS:35 patients with moderate or severe chronic periodontal disease were included and underwent periodontal surgery . In each patient, one side was randomly assigned to periodontal micro flap surgery ( test group) , the contra-lateral side was assigned to conventional surgery ( control group) . Visual analog scale ( VAS) of pain, degree of swell-ing (DS) and clinical indicators of plaque index (PLI), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL) and sulcus bleeding index (SBI) were assessed 1, 3 and 7 days and 1 , 3 and 6 months after surgery. RESULTS:VAS of test group was lower than that of control group 1, 3 and 7 days after surgery (P<0. 05). DS of test group was lower than that of control group 1 and 3 days after surgery(P<0. 05). All clinical indicators of test group were lower than those of control group 3 and 6 months after poeration but had no statistical difference (P>0. 05). At the end of 12 month after surgery, all parameters in test group were lower than those in control group (P<0. 05). CONCLUSION: Periodontal micro flap surgery has advantage over conventional periodontal flap surgery.
