Abstract:AIM:To explore the potential role of icariin in the regulation of proliferation and osteogenic dif-ferentiation of human dental pulp stem cells ( hDPSCs ) . METHODS: hDPSCs were treated by icariin at 10 -2 mol/L~10 -10 mol/L respectively. MTT assay was employed to evaluate the proliferative effect of icariin on hDP-SCs. Real time-PCR and Alizarin Red S were performed to examine the impact of icariin on osteogenic differentiation of hDPSCs. RESULTS:10 -2 mol/L~10 -3 mol/L icariin inhibited the proliferation of hDPSCs. 10 -5 mol/L icariin promoted the proliferation of hDPSCs. In addition, 10 -5 mol/L icariin could up-regulate osteogenic differentiation re-lated genes and could promote mineralized nodule formation. CONCLUSION: Icariin can enhance proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of hDPSCs at a certain concentration range.
