Abstract:AIM:To observe the short-term clinical outcome of implant therapy after systematic periodontal treatment in patients with severe periodontitis. METHODS:42 partially edentulous patients with severe periodontitis were treated by systematic therapy. After control of the periodontal infection a total of 80 implants were implanted. Im-plant supported dentures were made 3~6 months after implantation. Peri-implant tissue conditions were monitored for 3 months. RESULTS:After periodontal treatment PD, BOP and PLI in all patients were decreased (P<0. 05). Dur-ing the study period, all implants were in good function, 1~3 monnths after implantation PD, mSBI and mPLI were not significantly changed (P>0. 05). CONCLUSION:The short-term clinical outcomes of implant therapy in severe pe-riodontitis patients are satisfying. Comprehensive periodontal treatment and strict plaque control are the key influencing factors.
