Application of “role playing” in dental education

Abstract:AIM:To investigate the effects of role playing in dental education. METHODS: Role playing was introduced in the study of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics for five-year and eight-year program undergradu-ate students. The effect of role playing was evaluated by a questionnaire-based investigation. RESULTS:Among the students investigated, 93. 5% thought their professional knowledge was integrated by role playing, 82. 6% claimed that they had given enough respect to their dentists/patients, while 21. 7% did not know whether they communicated effec-tively with the patients. CONCLUSION: Role playing can increase students' enthusiasm in learning and limited in-volvement of the teachers is necessary for the successful practice of role playing.
