Abstract:AIM:To imitate the restoration of anterior tooth with light cured resin composite by multi-layered technology in vitro and to measure the optical properties of different layer-layer ratios. METHODS:Disks of resin com-posites Filtek Supreme XT 's YT(Yellow translucency)and A3B(Body shade) were prepared in the diameter of 9mm with various thicknesses(0. 5 mm,1. 0 mm,1. 5 mm and 2. 0 mm). YT/A3B overlap was prepared by the ratio of 0/2. 0,0. 5/1. 5,1. 0/1. 0,1. 5/0. 5 and 2. 0/0 respectively. PR-650 spectral scanning colorimeter was used to measure and calculate the translucency parameter( TP) ,opalescence parameter( OP) and fluorescence reflection( FL) . RESULTS:TP ,OP and FL values were higher with the increase of YT thickness. TP value of 0. 5/1. 5 group and 1. 0/1. 0 group was in the range of natural tooth. OP value of 2. 0/0 group was in the range of natural tooth. OP value of 1. 5/0. 5 was close to natural tooth. FL of all the combination groups was less than that of natural tooth. 0. 5/1. 5 group and 1. 0/1. 0 group didn't ex-cite fluorescence . CONCLUSION:Multi-layered technology of anterior restoration using A3B and YT can imitate the translucency and opalescence of natural tooth, but cannot imitate the fluorescence of natural tooth.
