Abstract:AIM:To compare the properties of stem cells isolated from normal and inflamed dental pulps. METHODS:Dental pulp stem cells from inflamed (iDPSCs)and normal pulps (DPSCs)were cultured, purified and expanded.Cell proliferation, colony formation rate, cell surface specific markers and cell differentiation-related genes were then determined after expansion.RESULTS:CD146,CD105,CD90 and CD29 were positively expressed, but CD45 and CD31 were not expressed in both stem cells. There were no significant differences in cell surface specific mark-er expression, cell growth and colony formation rate between the two groups(P>0.05 ).RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of RUNX2,OCN and DSPP of iDPSCs were weaker than that of DPSCs(P<0.05),but no significant difference was displayed in the expression of PPARγ(P>0.05 ).CONCLUSION:The morphology, proliferation rate and differentiation potential of iDPSCs are similar to those of DPSCs.
