Abstract:Abstract] AIM:To study the properties of titania coatings on the ultrafine-grained (UFG)titanium (Ti) prepared by micro-arc oxidation (MAO).METHODS:Titania coatings were made on the surface of UFG Ti and commcial titanium(C Ti)by MAO.The composition, surface morphology and thickness of titania coating on UFG Ti and(C Ti)were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy.Roughness of titania coating and bonding strength between Ti and coating were investigated by three-dimension morphology scanner and an Automatic Scratch Tester.RESULTS:The elements of the coating formed on UFG Ti and C Ti were O,Ti,P,Si and C(between the two groups,P >0.05). Surface morphology of coating on both groups was porous. The thickness of the MAO coating on UFG Ti and C Ti was (7.833 ±0.771)μm and (4.775 ±0.558)μm respectively (P <0.05),the surface roughness of titania coatings was (1.391 ±0.143)μm and (1.346 ±0.091)μm respectively((P >0.05),bonding strength between titania coating and UFG Ti or CP Ti was (23.900 ±1.267)N and (23.86 ±1.134)N respectively (P >0.05).CONCLUSION:The properties of titania coatings formed by MAO treatment on the UFG Ti are good enough in composition, surface mor-phology,thickness,roughness and bonding strength to meet the requirements for dental implant.
