Abstract:Abstract] AIM:To investigate the relationship between dental pain and P2X3 receptor expression level. METHODS:14 normal permanent molars,10 normal primary teeth,12 pulpitis permanent molars and 12 pulpitis pri-mary teeth were included. An increase in metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)was used to indicate pulpal inflammation in inflamed teeth.P2X3 receptor mRNA expression in tooth pulp was investigated using Real-Time fluorescence quantita-tive PCR.RESULTS:P2X3 receptor mRNA expression in normal and inflamed human permanent tooth pulp was simi-lar (P >0.05),whereas P2X3 receptor mRNA was up-regulated in inflamed primary dental pulp as compared with normal primary dental pulp (P <0.05).In addition,P2X3 receptor expression was greater in primary dental pulp than that in permanent dental pulp (P <0.05).CONCLUSION:P2X3 receptor may be related to primary tooth pulpitis pain.
