Oxidative stress and antioxidant defense system in the development of chronic periodontitis

Abstract：Reactive oxygen species (ROS )overproduction by periodontal tissues under bacterial stimuli can cause and aggravate the damages of periodontal tissues.This review focuses on the damages of periodontal tissues induced by ROS overproduction under inflammatory condition,as well as the roles and related mechanisms of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense system in the development of chronic periodontitis.
