Abstract：At present there are various case definitions of periodontitis.The lack of a universally accepted case definition is a major limiting factor in determining and comparing the prevalence of periodontitis among surveys. When analyzing the same data,different case definitions will lead to different prevalence rates of periodontitis.It is ur-gent to develop a broadly accepted standard case definition of periodontitis.The purpose of this study is to review the definitions of periodontitis in different surveys.
