Abstract:AIM:To compare the clinical effects of full-mouth scaling and root planing ( FM-SRP) and quadrant scaling and root planing ( Q-SRP) in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic periodontitis. METHODS:60 patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic periodontitis were randomly divided into 2 groups( n=30) . In FM-SRP group the patients received FM-SRP within 24 h, in Q-SRP group received Q-SRP once a week for 4 weeks.Plaque index ( PLI) , gingival index ( GI) , probing depth ( PD) , clinic attachment loss ( CAL) and glycated hemoglobin A1c ( GHbA1c) level were examined at baseline and at 3 and 6 months post-therapy.RESULTS:All pa-rameters improved in both groups after therapy (P<0.05), no significant difference was observed between FM-SRP group and Q-SRP group for any parameter at any time (P>0.05).CONCLUSION:FM-SRP and Q-SRP are equal-ly effective in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic periodontitis.
