Abstract:The dentin-adhesive interface is the weak link in resin restorations. It is also the main route for bacterial invasion in the underlying dentin and the factor of secondary caries. Therefore, development of adhesives with antibacterial activities can be an effective strategy to improve the outcomes of resin restorations.Quaternary ammonium monomers, which have both antibacterial and polymerization functions, can provide adhesive with stable antibacterial activities without compromising their original mechanical properties, and therefore are intensely studied by researchers in recently years. This review will focus on the latest developments in quaternary ammonium monomers and their appli-cations in dental adhesives.
