Abstract:AIM:To investigate the effect of geniposide on the durability of resin-dentin bonding against thermal cycling .METHODS:Fresh dentin specimens from extracted human third molars were demineralized and then were pretreated by genipin-based preconditioners at 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 mg/mL and various solvents (distilled water, ethanol or acetone ) .Then resin-dentin bond samples were prepared using Filtek TM Z350 XT universal restorative com-posite resin .The durability of resin-dentin bond against thermal cycling was evaluated by omnipatent material machine before and after thermal cycling .RESULTS:Samples treated by geniposide at 0.10 mg/mL or 0.15 mg/mL exhibited significantly greater immediate microtensile bond strength than those treated by the controls (P<0.05).After thermal cycling, resin-dentin bonding of Geniposide pretreatment groups (at 0.10 or 0.15 mg/mL) showed significantly higher ultimate microtensile bond strength than that of the controls (P<0.05), and significantly lower than that of non-ther-mal cycling groups (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Transient pretreatment by geniposide-based preconditioners can promote the resin-dentin bonding interface against thermal cycling .
