The expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide in gingival tissues of periodontitis patients

Abstract：AIM:To investigate the expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide ( CGRP) in inflammatory gingival tissues .METHODS:Gingival tissues from 20 periodontitis patients and 20 periodontally -healthy subjects (controls) were collected.CGRP expression was detected with two-step immunohistochemical method .Immunohisto-chemical image analysis software was used to semi -quantify the CGRP expression .T test was used to compare the differences .RESULTS:CGRP expression in both epithelial layer and connective tissue layer of inflamed gingival tis -sues was significantly higher than that in periodontally healthy gingival tissues (P<0.05).CONCLUSION:CGRP might play an important role in the initiation and progression of periodontitis ,.
