Abstract:AIM: To study the isothermal anneal effect on microstructure and flexible strength of machinable mica based glass -ceramics. METHODS: On the basis of sintering method, a proper annealing treatment was determined via DTA analyzing, orthogonal experiment, SEM and three -bending test. RESULTS: With the higher annealing temperature and longer annealing time, the micromorphology characteristics of mica based glass - ceramics showed reduction of grain size, and its distribution was more homogeneous, and the glass phases and the crystal phases intercalated more compactly. The transverse rupture strength showed increasing tendency. The annealing groups and non -annealing group showed significant difference (P<0. 05). Annealing for lh and 4h , these transverse rupture strength showed no significant difference(P>0.05) , while annealing for 7h at each temperature had (P<0.05). The transverse rupture strength was up to the maximum when annealing at 620℃ for7h. The result of XRD showed no difference in the main crystalline, but the crystalline fraction were different. CONCLUSION: The best annealing treatment in our experiment is annealing at 620℃ for 7 hours, then furnace cooling.
