Effect of the level of MMP-3 in serum of chronic periodontitis model in rat exposed to hypoxia simulating high attitude

Abstract：AIM: To investigate the effect of hypoxia on the serum level of MMP - 3 of rat chronic periodontitis model. METHODS: 80 adult SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: normal control group(N), normox-ia periodontitis group (PI) , hypoxia control group (H)and hypoxia periodontitis group (P2). P1 and P2 groups were set in normoxia circumstance and hypobaric chamber simulating 5000 meters high attitude. In each group the destruction of periodontal tissue was compared by histopathology and clinical indexes of periodontitis. The serum level of MMP - 3 in rat was measured by ELISA in each group. RESULTS: Level of Gl, PD , ABL and serum level of MMP - 3 were lowest in N group , by turns H group , P1 group , P2 group. Each index significantly changed in 4 groups (P < 0.05). Level of PLI was lowest in N group and H group , significantly lower than P1 group and P2 group (P < 0.05), no significantly change in N group and H group, P1 group and P2 group (P >0.05). CONCLUSION: Periodontitis can elevate the serum level of MMP -3 in rat. In hypoxia simulating high attitude the serum level of MMP -3 is higher, the destruction of periodontal tissue was promoted further.
