Evaluation of the effects of different periodontal drug membranes in the treatment of adult periodontitis
Abstract:AIM: To compare and evaluate the effects of different periodontal drug membranes in the treatment of adult periodontitis. METHODS: The effects of spiramycin(SPI), metronidazole(MNZ) and SPI -MNZ mixed drug membranes in the treatment of adult periodontitis were assessed by the coloration of Congo-red and the analyse of biochemical enzymes. RESULTS: There were significant differences between the me dication groups and control groups. The SPI-MNZ mixed drug membranes were mo re effective than SPI or MNZ membranes. There were no statistical differen c es between SPI and MNZ drug membranes in regarding to the clin ical efficacy. CONCLUSIONS: Periodontal drug membranes are effective in the management of adult periodontitis.Compared with other simple membranes, SPI-MNZ mixed drug membranes ensure more satisfactory clinical ef fectiveness, predicting their greater potentiality of clinical application.
