Effects of nerve growth factor on ALP activity of human dental papilla mesenchyme cells cultured in vitro
Abstract:AIM: To observe the effects of nerve growth factor(NGF) on ALPactivity of human dental papilla mesenchyme cells. METHODS: Enzymic histochemistry. RESULTS: NGF at 100U/ml increased ALP activity of the cells significantly at the culture time of 3d. When the cells were cultured up to 5 or 7 d, the stimulating effects were more evident and significanly higher than that cultured for 3d. NGF(100U/ml) was also shown to simulate the secretion of ALP from cultured cells at all observed times. Whereas, no significant difference was detected in the control group at different times of culture. CONCLUSION: The results suggested that the NGF might be involoved in the cascade of odontoblast differentiation, and the accumulation of ALP in local circumstances might participate in the biological mineralization process occurred in extracellular matrix.
