The effects of fibronectin on biological characteristics of gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts
Abstract:AIM: To observe the effects of fibronectin on the biologicalcharacteristics of cultured gingival and periodontal ligament fibroblasts. METHODS: Cell culture technique, MTT colorimetric assay, ALP activity assay, Commasie brilliant blue stain and Dahl McGec-Russell's alizarin red stain for calcium were used. RESULTS: FN enhanced the proliferative responses of these two types of cells and promoted the induction of ALP activity, protein synthesis by PDLF, but no significant effects on the mineralized nodule formation by PDLF. CONCLUSION: FN enhances the proliferation and protein synthesis of PDLF, but limited effects to stimulate cell differentiation. It needs other growth factors to act in concert to promote tissue regeneration.
