Investigation and analysis of the distribution of NOS in human pulp
Abstract:AIM: To study the relationship between the potential ability ofpulpal self-repair and NOS. METHODS: NADPH histochemical method was performed to detect the distribution of NOS in normal, traumatic and inflammatory human pulp. Difference of the amount of NOS was determined by Medical Image Analysis System. RESULTS: The positive stain of NOS was mainly distributed in the odontoblast cell layer,Schwann’s and vascular endothelial cells of normal human pulp. Significantly higher levels of NOS were found in pulp of carious tooth and traumatic pulp, but lower in inflammatory pulp. CONCLUSIONS: L-Arg-NO pathway is involved in the odontoblast and mesenchymal cells;NO may be of great significance in maintaining the stabilization and functional roles of pulp and be related to the potential ability of pulp self-repair.
