Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of microsplint and circumferential wiring in the treatment of mandibu-lar body fracture in children. Methods A total of 51 children with mandibular fractures were enrolled in our hospital from January 2009 to January 2016. They were treated with microsplints and with lumbar ligation. Perioperative period and short-term follow-up were performed. Results The operation time of 51 patients was 37-48 (41. 35 ± 6. 74) min. All the patients were followed up for one week. All the patients had no obvious gingival ulceration, bleeding, punctured skin and no swelling and exudation in the mouth. Postoperative occlusal relationship recovery ideal in 43 cases (84. 3%),anterior small opening with craniocervical elastic bandage in 5 cases (9. 8%); bilateral condyle fracture with bilateral posterior teeth in 3 cases (5. 9%),indwelling small ring surgery with intermaxillary ligation. After operation, 34 cases (66. 67%) had normal mouth opening difficulty,15 cases (29. 41%) had degree I mouth opening difficulty and 2 cases (3. 93%) had degree II mouth opening difficulty. All 51 children recovered to normal during follow-up. There was no significant difference in the periodontal health index PLI,GI and SBI between the immediate post-operation and after 3 months (P>0. 05). Conclusion The use of microsplint and lumbar jaw in children with mandibular fractures is safe and effective, and has no obvious adverse effect on the periodontal health and recovery of mouth.
