Clinical value analysis of maxillary and mandibular rapid expansion combined with MBT straight wire appliance for the correction of malocclusion

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the effect of maxillary and mandibular rapid expansion combined with MBT straight wire appliance for the correction of malocclusion.Methods Fifty-one teenagers who were treated with maxillary and mandibular rapid expansion combined with MBT straight wire appliance for the correction of malocclusion in hospital from February 2015 to January 2017,were selected;the model and head shadow of the patient's jaws were measured and analyzed before and after correction.Results After the correction,the width of maxillary and mandibular dental arch was increased than before the correction,while the length was decreased than before the correction (t =7.675,11.388,10.664,6.900,3.014,12.131,12.916,9.724,7.944,5.068,P ＜ 0.05);and the change in width of the premolar region was greatest;before and after correction,the change values of first and second maxillary premolars were (4.56 ± 1.22) mm and (4.14 ± 1.30) mm,and the change values of first and second mandibular premolars were (4.61 ± 1.26) mm and (6.07 ± 1.38) mm.After the correction,the SNB,L1-NB and L1-MP were respectively (77.10 ± 2.38) °,(31.45 ± 5.28) °,(6.40 ± 1.42) mm and (99.43 ± 8.01)°,which were increased than before the correction (t =2.372,4.472,2.926,2.882,P ＜ 0.05);While U1NA,U1-SN and Overjet were respectively (24.38 ± 5.81) °,(4.60 ± 1.78) °,mm (103.89 ± 10.02) °and (3.12 ± 1.15)mm,which were decreased than before the correction (t =2.806,3.446,1.999,7.53 1,P ＜ 0.05).After the correction,the FH-N'Pg',nasolabial angle and Z angle were respectively (90.53 ± 5.10) °,(100.81 ± 8.91) ° and (69.02 ± 5.82) °,which were increased than before the correction (t =2.011,2.347,5.816,P ＜ 0.05),and the H angle was (16.57 ± 2.04) °,which were decreased than before the correction (t =6.726,P ＜ 0.001).Conclusion Maxillary and mandibular rapid expansion combined with MBT straight wire appliance can effectively correct malocclusion and improve the maxillofacial appearance.
