Efficacy of improved resectoscope combined with holmium laser in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia complicated with bladder stones

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the efficacy of improved resectoscope combined with holmium laser in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) combined with bladder stones in order to find the best method for simultaneous treatment of BPH with bladder stones.Methods Two hundred and four patients with BPH combined with bladder stones who were hospitalized in the department of urology of Zhabei Central Hospital from June 2011 to June 2016 were divided into A,B and C groups according to the random number table method.68 patients were in each group.Respectively,patients underwent the electrosurgical splenectomy combined with ureteroscopic pneumatic ballistic therapy,electrosurgical splenectomy combined with ureteroscopic holmium laser treatment and improved resection combined with holmium laser treatment.The intraoperative data of three groups of patients were compared.The patients were followed up for 1 year and the prognosis of three groups of patients was compared.Results The success rate of stone crushing,the rate of stone drainage,the time of stone operation and the total operation time of group B and group C were better than those of group A (P<0.01).The above indexes in group C were significantly better than those in group B (P<0.05).The Qmax,IPSS and PVRU during follow up were significantly improved (P<0.01) compared with the baseline values of the three groups.There were no significant differences in IPSS,Qmax,PVRU and International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) between the three groups at the 6th and 12th month after operation.The incidence of complications was statistically significant (χ2=40.372,P<0.01),compared with group A,the incidence of complications in group C was significantly lower (2.9％ vs.48.5％,χ2=34.638,P<0.01).Compared with group B,the incidence of complications in group C was also significantly lower (2.9％ vs.19.1％,χ2=7.496,P=0.006).Conclusion Holmium laser treatment of bladder stones is more efficient than pneumaty.In the improved new type resectoscope combined with holmium laser treatment of BPH combined with bladder stones is simple,shorten the operation time,less complications,and is a safe and effective new urological surgical methods.
