Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effects of Ivabradine on the cardiac biomarkers and cardiac function in the elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).Methods The present study included 52 outpatients with stable CHF whose sinus rhythm with heart rates (HR) ≥70/bpm on the basis of optimized medical therapy, and other 50 matched elderly CHF patients as control. All included patients in the treatment group were given Ivabradine for 3 months. The HR, N terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), the Cystatin C, 6 minute walk test and the adverse effects were recorded and compared between the inter-and intra-group.Results After 3 months followed up, Ivabradine significantly decreased HR, the levers of NT-proBNP and Cystatin C (t=6.009,t=3.234,t=5.530,all P<0.01).Importantly both the NYHA classification and 6 minute walk test distance were significantly improved (t=7.792,P<0.01).Compared with before treatment, the LVEDD,LVEF in trail group were improved significantly(t=7.269,t=-7.039,P<0.01),which was superior to control group(P<0.01).Few adverse effects(9 cases,17.3%) were recorded and didn't result in drug withdrawal. Conclusion Ivabradine treatment decreases the levels of cardiac biomarkers and improve cardiac function in elderly outpatients with stable CHF.
