Effect of oxcarbazepine on EEG characteristics and levels of inflammatory factors in patients with epilepsy after viral encephalitis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of oxcarbazepine on clinical efficacy and EEG features and levels of inflammatory factors in patients with epilepsy after viral encephalitis.Methods One hundred and twenty cases of epilepsy after viral encephalitis were divided into observation group (n =60) and control group (n =60) from June 2014 to June 2016.The control group were received with levetiracetam monotherapy and observation group were received with oxcarbazepine monotherapy.The total effective of two groups after one month,three months,six months were recorded.The changes of EEG discharge function of the two groups before and after 3 months,6 months treatment were determined with long range video EEG.The levels of serum interleukin 6 months 6 (IL-6),tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) of two groups after 3 months,6 months were measured by ELISA.Results The complete control rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group at the 1st,3rd and 6th month (x2 =4.800,x2 =5.000,x2 =6.136,P =0.028,P =0.025,P =0.013),the total effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group at the 1st,3rd and 6th month (x2 =8.889,x2 =7.548,x2 =12.810,P =0.003,P =0.006,P =0.000).There was no significant difference in δ power,θ power,α power and β power between the two groups before treatment (P ＞ 0.05);Compared with before treatment,the observation group and control group after 3 months,6 months,the α power was significantly increased (t =8.263,t =6.772;t =5.742,t =8.993;P =0.000,P =0.000;P =0.000,P =0.000),the control group after 3 months,6 months,the θ power,α power was significantly higher than the observation group,the difference was statistically significant(t =9.125,t =7.452;t =8.112,t =8.022;P =0.000,P =0.000;P =0.000,P =0.000).There was no significant difference in IL-6 and TNF-α levels between the two groups before treatment (P ＞ 0.05).The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in 3 months and 6 months after treatment were lower than those before treatment (t =9.122,t =8.125,t =10.220,t =8.693;t =0.110,t =7.693,t =12.526,t =10.250;P ＜0.05).The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at 3 months and6 months (t =5.222,t =6.336;t =7.089,t =8.993;P ＜0.05).There was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).There was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Combined oxcarbazepine and vaporware can effectively improve the clinical treatment of viral encephalitis patients,with less impact on epilepsy patients EEG background activity,can effectively reduce serum levels of inflammatory factors,safe and effective,worthy of recommendation.
